Protesting against the amendment of the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNTA) and Santhal Paragana Tenancy Act (SPTA), which allow tribals to use their land commercially - the state Opposition, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (P), called for a Jharkhand bandh on 25 November.

Despite the Jharkhand High Court ruling against enforcing the bandh as well as issuing orders to penalise perpetrators for any violence or damage to property - the bandh garnered massive support throughout the state.

Jharkhand police reportedly made approximately 9000 state-wide preventive arrests after the protests turned violent.

JMM's Hemant Soren, and JVM (P)'s Babulal Marandi and many more politicians from the Congress, JD (U) were taken into custody and later released.

According to The Indian Express, vehicles were set on fire in Dumka district; despite imposition of section 144 in the state capital, Ranchi.

According to reports, the mob-instigated violence and loot of a daily market in Sahibganj ended with several injured policemen. A truck was set of fire in Dhamdhum village, Jamshedpur. The destruction of vehicles had to be quelled with the help of tear-gas and water cannons.
